Chelsea Reads

3rd Annual Chelsea Reads Family Literacy Day Event- Saturday, November 1

National Family Literacy Day is celebrated on November 1 of each year throughout the United States to celebrate how the family can be the transformative structure to improve literacy for adults and children. Massachusetts declares the entire month of November as Family Literacy Month, an opportunity to support children’s learning in and out of school, engage parents in supporting their children's education and encourage community partners to support lifelong learning and family well being.

The Chelsea community will kick off the Family Literacy Month celebration with its 3rd annual event – Chelsea Reads – on Saturday, November 1 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Chelsea Public Library. This highly successful event targets children ages 3-8 years old, and will bring together a variety of community partners including: Borders, CAPIC Head Start, Chelsea/Revere Family Network, Chelsea Housing Authority, Chelsea Public Library, DM Sign, Eagle Heights Church, Jordan Boys & Girls Club, A Kangaroo’s Pouch Child Care Center, KISS 108, The Lewis Latimer Society, MGH Chelsea Reach Out & Read, Museum of Science, Raising A Reader MA and Sir Speedy.

The event will offer a variety of art activities linked to selected children’s books, face-painting, story-telling and activities with robotics. Each child that attends Chelsea Reads will receive their very own Chelsea Reads book bag full of children’s books. This event is a wonderful chance for the entire family to be introduced to the library and a great opportunity for adults and children alike to sign up for a new library card.
